To show you what a honed slate hearth looks like when sealed, we simply went over it with a damp cloth, just to illustrate the way the different tones come to life.
Check out the very "arty" cloud-like patterns which are often found when the natural surface is machined to create this honed (very smooth) mirror-like surface

The surface is super flat as it has been "machined". It has has an eggshell like feel to the surface.
